BACK AT IT

Let me just tell you that I had the time of my life shooting RAM out in the desert.  It was one of those shoots where I had to pinch myself constantly and ask “is this real life?”  But it would be one thing just to rip around in a dune buggy watching pro drivers do burn outs, what really made that shoot special was the team that came together to pull it off.  Never have I worked with an agency partner that was top-to-bottom so dedicated to the mission at hand.  It was seamless and truly collaborative.

I’m stoked for this next adventure and can’t wait to chat through my ideas with you.

FIND YOUR SPOT

Nothing beats an off-road beach adventure.  Hell, it’s the singular reason I bought a truck.  Put the windows down, let the air out of the tires and fire out into the open sand to claim your piece of paradise. In this scene, we’ll follow our crew out on an all day beach safari. Once there, they set up shop for a full day of fun. We’ll have the standard beach toys: beach balls, frisbees, and spike ball - but I think with this outdoorsy crew we’d have some surfers and fisherman in tow.

SOCIAL SHOT IDEAS

LOOPING VIDEO. Camera framed up on the tailgate of the truck as surfers wipe screen carrying surfboards.

OVERHEAD DRONE. Starts tight on an umbrella and elevates quickly to reveal the full beach camp. We see our surfer run toward the waves with his board in hand.

BOOMERANG action on throwing frisbee and beachballs around in a circle.

OUT FOR A HIKE

This spot focuses on the adventure, and the truck that gets you there.  We open on a trailhead in early morning as our pack gets ready for a full day hike.  We follow along as they adventure through the thick woods, sweeping rivers, and picturesque waterfalls.  They make it back to the cars with just enough time to enjoy a cold one.  Perfect cap off to the perfect day.

SET UP SHOP

This scene is all about cozying up on a perfect perch high above the ocean.  We’ll show our crew as they approach the high peak and find their spot for the night.  These are experienced campers and they’ve packed the trucks to the gills full of gear.  They set up a roaring fire, cook some food and fade off into the night.

PRODUCTION APPROACH

CASTING

These scenes are all about being in the moment. We need to keep this in mind when it comes to casting. Any choice that feels too composed or unrealistic could kill the moment. I’d like to find a group of people who are actually outdoorsy, adventure seekers.  Ideally, they’re already friends and this is something that they would do on any weekend.  We want them to feel approachable and natural, certainly not models.  The least amount of direction I have to give the better.  The goal will be to put them in these beautiful places and let them go.

 LOCATIONS

We explored a lot of different options on where to shoot: Central Coast, Big Sur, Nor Cal.  We were looking for the right combo for each scene within a reasonable proximity.  We found that no matter where we went we would be sacrificing a look for one of the three.  Beyond that, California coastal spots are very busy this time of year.   So, then we looked north to Oregon.  After speaking with a couple scouts based out of Portland, we feel like the Oregon coast has the most to offer: big sloping beaches you can drive on for miles, beautiful forests of many sorts and waterfalls along the Columbia river. And of course cliffs, there are some epic cliffside spots where we can set up our camp scene.  All of these locations are within striking distance of Portland which gives us more time for shooting and great local crew, maximizing the bang for our buck.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

We know August can shoot trucks firing through the desert sand, but what he really excels at is adventure + lifestyle. He has a way of making any trip feel epic. Have a look at his reel to see some of his work for Toyota, Pacifico, and of course, RAM.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Great auto photography is hard to come by. Coming out of Lancaster, I was blown away by what Paul was able to capture. In order to reach that bar, we feel it’s best to reach out to a photography agency and choose from a number of their automotive photographers for the specific style that will work best for our approach.

THANK YOU.

We're amped at the opportunity to work on this project and look forward to hearing your feedback on our approach.
